The easiest method of erecting beams is to make temporary braces from 2-layer materials. This should be the height of the walls of the building, plus the elevation. Use only sufficient supports for the first length of the ridge board. Tear the ridge board to the correct width to fit the widths of the beam at the ridge.
Create a frame at the top with the straps at the height of the building walls, plus an elevation, minus the width of the ridge. Attach these supports to the center line of the building. Place a ridge board facing down on the support frames. Align the upper plumb cut with the ridge and align the healing cut in the bird's mouth with the inside of the wall.
As the beams are installed, add the supports needed or required by the code, such as neck ties or center supports. Continue raising beams until you reach the end of the first piece of ridge board. Then move the temporary braces to the next ridge board and continue installing the beams. This step-by-step guide shows how to build a roof, including installing a base and slats and finishing the roof with shingles, edge units and a ridge system.
Do you want to learn how to build a roof to keep costs under control in your self-construction project? While it's not a job for a DIY beginner, it could be done by a more experienced DIYer. First of all, you should frame the ends of the gable of the small house. Cut the 2 × 6 wood components. As you can easily see in the diagram, you need to make a few 45-degree cuts in the upper part of the uprights and in the beams.
In many cases, with the plans of the purchased house, the details of the construction of the roof are included, including the design of the beam. Felt paper, also called tar paper or construction paper, helps remove water that enters under shingles, protects asphalt shingles from wood roof resins, increases roof fire resistance, and helps keep the house dry if it rains while working. And if possible, park the rented garbage can near the house so that you can throw away the old shingles directly from the roof. If you already know a little bit about how to build a roof, you can skip the easy things and find the roof carpentry information you need.
Common beams are the main woods used to build a gable roof and are also found in almost every hipped roof construction.
